Phyto-Biotics Quercus® elevates traditional plant stem cell technology by using a co-culture system that mimics environmental stressors to activate the production of secondary metabolites. While most cosmetic stem cell ingredients rely on simple meristematic cell extracts with minimal activity, this novel approach produces bioactive compounds with targeted skin benefits.

Through biotic stress, Quercus alba—commonly known as White Oak—produces a range of phenolic compounds that defend the plant from environmental threats. These same compounds provide skin with potent antioxidant and antimicrobial protection, help soothe irritation, and support skin longevity. Notably, tannins and ellagitannins function as free radical scavengers and promote faster cellular regeneration, ideal for anti-aging and healing applications.

Phyto-Biotics Quercus® is produced from Quercus alba (White Oak) stem cells co-cultured with Leuconostoc sp. under biotic stress. This process induces the generation of specific phenolic secondary metabolites, including tannic acid and ellagitannins, standardized for efficacy and bioactivity.

🔬 Antioxidant Capacity – ORAC Assay
As shown in Figure 1, Phyto-Biotics Quercus® exhibited antioxidant activity comparable to 200μM Trolox®. Its antioxidant performance increased with concentration, confirming a dose-dependent ability to combat oxidative stress.

💧 Moisturization Efficacy – In Vivo Study
Moisture levels improved by 17.63% after 24 hours and by 146.98% after 4 weeks compared to untreated skin. A 2.0% Phyto-Biotics Quercus® formula was 8.10% more moisturizing than the base lotion after 24 hours, and 29.30% more moisturizing after 4 weeks.

💦 Long-Term Hydration Retention
After discontinuation of product use, the site treated with 2.0% Phyto-Biotics Quercus® remained 53.0% more moisturized after 24 hours and 15.87% more moisturized after two weeks versus untreated skin. Compared to the base lotion, it maintained 16.08% and 13.77% greater hydration after 24 hours and two weeks, respectively.

🛡️ Anti-Inflammatory Activity – IL-6 Reduction
Phyto-Biotics Quercus® reduced IL-6 production in LPS-treated fibroblasts in a dose-dependent manner, suggesting a lowered inflammatory response that supports anti-aging and skin-soothing properties.
