Jasmine species are most commonly grown indoors for their lovely, fragrant flowers. This exotic plant is a fragile, evergreen climbing shrub that can grow up to 33 feet high. It has dark green leaves and small white or pale pink star shaped flowers and famous for its scent. The common white jasmine (Jasminum officinale), one of the best known and perhaps most highly esteemed of British hardy ligneous climbers, is a native of Northern India and Persia, introduced about the middle of the sixteenth century. Jasmine is known as the "King of Oils” and its heavy, sweet scent that is loved by most people.
One of the important components of the plant is salicylic acid found mainly in its leaves. Salicylic acid, being a member of the Beta Hydroxy Acid family, works mainly as a keratolytic agent. The rationale behind salicylic acid derivatives and the use thereof is cosmetic formulation, particularly in skincare, is to combat the signs of aging. Such is done by improving the radiance of the complexion, smoothing the skin and stimulating the process. Other properties of the plant are antiseptic, stimulant, and emollient. The latter effect, being due to the complex carbohydrate, prevents water loss and adds softening and moisturizing effects on the skin and hair. Helping to restore moisture content and acts as a protective shield.
Jasmine extract is known for its calming, soothing and rejuvenating properties. It may also be used to revitalize and stimulate the skin. Moisture to the skin and hair is like oxygen in one’s body. Sufficient moisture will allow the skin to achieve and maintain a state of comfort. If lacking moisture, one’s skin will react by premature wrinkles, breakouts, sensitivity and large pores. Concurrently, moisture-lacking hair will encourage breakage and dryness. When incorporated into formulations, FSS Jasmine Extract PF may help to soften, moisturize, and give shine to the hair.
