Bilberry, also known as the European blueberry, belongs to the berry family of Vaccinium Myrtillus, originating from Northern Europe and now also found in parts of North America and Asia. Interest in this fruit dates back to WW2, when pilots realized it helped them increase their night vision. This plant species is a naturally rich source in phytochemical compounds, including sugars, fibers, vitamins, organic acids, and phenolic compounds. The phenolic compound, anthocyanins, gives this small fruit its blueish and black color. Besides providing pigment and improving vision, the amount of anthocyanins is responsible for many health-related and cosmetic benefits, such as anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidant defense, lowers oxidative stress, and has antimicrobial activity.

Skin exposure to UV rays, prolonged states of oxidative stress, and environmental pollutants can all lead to signs of premature aging. Studies have shown that bilberry extract fractions with higher amounts of phenolic acids had UV-B blocking activity, providing that one extra barrier between the sun and the skin. Oxidative stress, caused by chronic inflammation, specifically leads to the production loss of collagen and elastic fibers. Therefore, this causes rougher texture, wrinkles, and sagging. Bilberry lowers the production of oxidative stress through its antioxidant defenses. Other bilberry properties, such as cyanidin-3-glucoside and quercetin, benefit complexion by inhibiting inflammation for damaged skin and reducing IL-17, a protein that promotes tissue destruction in chronic inflammation.

FSS Bilberry Extract G PF is a water-soluble ingredient offering the opportunity to capitalize on the benefits associated with the bilberry fruit and leaf in a variety of personal care applications. FSS Bilberry Extract G PF encourages antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory effects.

Storage: Store in a dry place at temperatures between 16 and 32°C. Do not freeze.

Shelf life: 12 months, properly stored, in sealed container.
